Bachmann and Kline Won't Be at Farmfest
Aug. 2, 2010 From mpr.org
The organizers of this year's FarmFest Congressional panel say GOP Rep.
John Kline and GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann won't be at this year's forum.
The event, which takes place tomorrow, is an annual opportunity for the
candidates and members of Congress to talk ag issues with the state's
farming community. Dan Powers, the DFL endorsed candidate in
Minnesota's 2nd District, also isn't scheduled to attend. Read more
Shelley Madore will bring support home
By James Warden, Faribault Daily News
Even when Shelley Madore’s daughter graduated high school, she couldn’t quite ditch her policy wonk penchant.
Amid
the excitement, the former state representative reminded the young
graduate that Minnesota had made a $100,000 investment in her future
through public education and that she should make the most of it.
This
year, Madore is running to represent the 2nd Congressional District in
the U.S. House of Representatives, and her campaign is every bit as
wonkish as the advice to her daughter would suggest.
Kline Reacts to Madore's 35 Cent Tour
July 23, 2010 (Burnsville, Minn.) Shelley Madore's 35 Cent Tour has highlighted how unresponsive Representative John Kline has been to the needs of the people in this District. He's tried to call himself "anti-earmark, anti-pork" but the impact of that is plain: We're the poorest district in the state in terms of federal funding, getting less than half the state average back from the money we send to Washington through Federal income and gasoline taxes. Just 35 cents for every dollar we pay is spent in our district.
Our district is losing jobs, and businesses, because our Congressman has been unwilling to secure Federal dollars to build and maintain our roads and highways, schools and other projects that are eligible for Federal funding.
Now John Kline has been forced to react. Just today he sent an email to constituents saying he's "requested" that the Highway 212 corridor "be included in plans to complete a continuous four-lane facility from Eden Prairie to Norwood Young America", and "asked" that Highway 5 be upgraded from two to four lanes between Chanhassen and Norwood Young America.
35 Cent Tour Begins in Faribault
July 22, 2010 (Faribault, Minn.) Second Congressional District candidate and former State Representative Shelley Madore kicked off her “35 Cent Tour” at South Central College’s Faribault Campus today. College President Keith Stover spoke about a classroom and lab expansion to accommodate the growing demand for training programs for displaced workers. The school offers programs in science, technology, engineering, math and health care. The plan to update the 46-year-old energy-inefficient building has been on hold for several years because a key piece of Federal funding has not been secured. Federal funding must be secured by the sitting Congressman, John Kline.
